This full-bodied wine opens with aromas of crushed berry, tobacco, leather, clove and a balsamic note. The robust enveloping palate offers cherry marinated in spirits, licorice, peppercorn and dried herb framed in firm velvety tannins.
100% Nebbiolo from 30-year-old vines planted at 300 meters above sea level. Vineyards are southwest facing and rich in iron and calcareous clay. Named for the ancient tradition of submerging the cap for 90 days prior to racking, this wine then ages for 4 years in large Slavonian oak casks (30-50 hectoliters) prior to refinement in bottle before release. 4,000 bottles produced annually.
