Soft, open-knit, and gracious, yet muscular. Red cherry, plums, tobacco, spice, and leather make a positive first impression. Hints of rose, mint, and cinnamon blend into a creamy finish. It is rich and generous with plenty of structure and, although powerful, the wine displays exceptional elegance and class. In 1796, Benedtto Elia purchased a famstead and wine cellar in Nieve, Barbaresco. His son, Guiseppe later extended the vineyards and acquired the underground cellar with dates back to the 15th century. In 1893, the classic Sori Paitin Barbaresco is produced, beginning the excellence of this wine that is still so reverred today. Secondo Pasquero-Elia still works in the cellar with his sons Giovanni and Silvano. The wines of Paitin are benchmarks for quality in Barbaresco, standards which other producers measure themselves by. Made from vines planted in 1953 and 1984, the wine spends 18-24 months in Slavonian oak casks and two months in steel tanks before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.
